JUNKYARD DOG PRODUCTIONS is a Tony® and Olivier® Award winning producing company dedicated to developing and producing new musical theatre. JYD specializes in establishing collaborative partnerships to harness the considerable energy and financial clout of the regional, national and international marketplace, building on established relationships to create producing “pipelines” for new work.

ABOUT

Since its inception in 2006, Junkyard Dog Productions, a Tony® and Olivier® Award winning production company, has successfully helmed a variety of original musicals, including the hit musical COME FROM AWAY (Olivier, Outer Critics Circle, Drama Desk winner Best Musical), written by David Hein and Irene Sankoff, on Broadway, in Toronto, on tour across North America, in London, and across Australia. Also on Broadway Junkyard produced FIRST DATE, by Michael Weiner, Alan Zachary and Austin Winsberg, and the 2010 Tony® Award Winning Best Musical, MEMPHIS, which enjoyed a successful three year run, as well as a multi-year National Tour and Olivier® Award Winning run on London’s West End starring Beverley Knight. In addition, JYD served as Executive Producer for Doctor Zhivago on Broadway. 

Past works have included Make Me A Song, The Music of William Finn Off-Broadway (Outer Critics Circle Award and Drama Desk Award nominations) and at The New Players Theatre in London; Vanities, A New Musical with Pasadena Playhouse as well as Second Stage Theatre; Memphis pre-Broadway with La Jolla Playhouse and Seattle’s Fifth Avenue Theatre; Party Come Here at the New York Musical Theatre Festival and in association with The Williamstown Theatre Festival. Founding partners in Junkyard Dog are Randy Adams, Marleen and Kenny Alhadeff and Sue Frost. 

All four partners are uniquely positioned to create this model. Sue Frost, as Associate Producer for 20 years at the world-renowned Goodspeed Opera House, produced over 50 new musicals, establishing relationships with dozens of musical theatre writers including William Finn, Andrew Lippa, David Zippel, and Jeanine Tesori. Randy Adams, former Managing Director of TheatreWorks in Palo Alto, CA, grew his theatre into a thriving, nationally recognized company specializing in the production of regional and world premieres of plays and musicals such as Sideshow and Everything’s Ducky by Henry Krieger and Bill Russell, A Little Princess by Andrew Lippa and Brian Crawley, and Vanities, A New Musical by Jack Heifner and David Kirshenbaum. Marleen and Kenny Alhadeff serve as producing partners of the 5th Avenue Theatre where they have championed the New Works Program. The 5th Avenue Theatre is one of the nation’s leading producers and creators of new work, having premiered over 16 original musicals in the past 10 years. Marleen and Kenny have been integral in the creation of this year round program that ‘aims to advance the art form of musical theater through the creation and production of the next generation of musicals.’

RANDY ADAMS (Producer) is a Tony® and Olivier®-award winning Producer and Founding Partner of Junkyard Dog Productions (JYD), a theatrical producing company dedicated to the development and production of new musical theatre. Come From Away ran at Broadway’s Schoenfeld Theatre and was the winner of the Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, Helen Hayes and Dora Award for Best Musical of 2017. Additional production of CFA ran in Toronto at the Royal Alexandra Theatre and the North American tour is currently out for at least the next three years. Winner of 4 Olivier Awards including Best New Musical of 2019, Come From Away ran at the Phoenix Theatre in London and will tour the UK and Ireland in 2024 and the Australian tour will end in Summer 2023.   JYD’s first Broadway production Memphis was the winner of the Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best Musical of 2010.  First Date premiered in Seattle prior to its Broadway run.  Since its inception in 2006, JYD has also produced Make Me A Song, The Music of William Finn off-Broadway (Drama Desk nom., Outer Critics Circle nom.) and in London.  Prior to creating JYD, he was the Managing Director at the Tony® -award winning TheatreWorks Silicon Valley from 1984 to 2006.  He holds an M.A from the University of Kansas and a B.A from Otterbein University.

KENNY ALHADEFF (Producer)  is a Lead Producer of Broadway productions of Memphis (multiple awards including Best Musical), First Date and currently Come From Away (multiple awards including Best Musical) as well as off Broadway Production of Vanities. He and his wife were honored by NAMT for their efforts and commitment toward new works in 2018. He is chairman of Elttaes Enterprises (a personal investment company) and owner of the Majestic Bay Theatres. Additionally, he is the producing partner at Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre, is a member of the Broadway League, serves on the advisory board of the Seattle Rep Theatre,  was a graduate of and served on the board of regents for Washington State University (past chair 2006-07 & 2000-01), board president of the Northwest School for Hearing-Impaired Children, trustee of KeyBank National Association, board member of the 5th Avenue Theatre Association (past chair 2004-2007) and was co-chairman of Governor Gardner’s commission for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Events. In the past, served as Vice President of the National Alliance of Musical Theatre Kenny has served on boards of Cornish College of the Arts, the Seattle Repertory Theatre, The Seattle Symphony, as an advisor for Seattle Shakespeare Company and On the Boards. Kenny was named one of the top 25 most influential Seattle business executives of the last 35 years by the Puget Sound Business Journal.

MARLEEN MAGNONI ALHADEFF (Producer) is a Lead Producer of Broadway productions of Memphis (multiple awards including Best Musical), First Date and currently Come From Away (multiple awards including Best Musical) as well as off Broadway Production of Vanities. She and her husband were honored by NAMT for their efforts and commitment toward new works in 2018 and they remain committed to sustained efforts and passion towards new works.  Marleen attended  the University of Utah for a dance and ballet major followed by the University of Washington for an art & interior design major. She worked for over 30 years in the interior design field for both commercial and residential projects. In 2006 Marleen joined Junkyard Dog Productions as a partner. She is currently a member of The Broadway League, The National Alliance for Musical Theater, one of the Producing Partners of Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre since 2007 and on the Advisory Board of Seattle REP and Pacific Northwest Ballet.  In the past she has served on the board of MusiComedy, Cornish College of the Arts Players Club, Mothers Against Violence in America, Seattle Children’s Museum and Chair of the Foundation for Early Learning. Marleen continues to be active in advocating for gun safety, environmental issues, campaign finance reform, civil rights initiatives, and access to the arts.

Prior to founding Junkyard, Sue was Associate Producer at Goodspeed Musicals for 20 years, where she produced more than 50 new musicals at both the Goodspeed Opera House and the Norma Terris Theatre. Before that she was a Broadway company manager. A graduate of Smith College, Sue is a member of adjunct faculty at Columbia University, and currently serves on the Broadway League’s Board of Governors, the Executive, Tony Administration, Audience Engagement, Intra-Industry, Governance, and Business Development Committee.
