FIRST DATE was originally co-produced by The 5th Avenue Theatre and A Contemporary Theatre in Seattle, WA in 2012. This Seattle production won the 2012 Broadway World Seattle Award for Best New/Original Play/Musical (Local) and the 2012 Seattle Footlights Award for Worthy World Premieres, Top Musicals (locally produced) and a Great Performance (Musical) award for Erik Ankrim’s performance as “Aaron.”

After its original production in Seattle, WA, FIRST DATE made its Broadway debut in August of 2013 at the Longacre Theatre. The new musical, starring Zachary Levi (Aaron) and Krysta Rodriguez (Casey), ran for 34 previews and 174 regular performances before closing in January 2014. International productions of FIRST DATE include a non-English company in Japan in 2014, a production in Buenos Aires at the Maipo Theatre in 2016 and an Australian production at Chapel Off Chapel in 2017.

When tightly wound Aaron is set up with serial-dater Casey a quick drink at a busy New York restaurant turns into a hilarious, high-stakes dinner. As the date unfolds in real time, the couple quickly finds they are not alone on this date as Casey and Aaron’s inner critics take on a life of their own when other restaurant patrons and the wait staff get into the act. Dinner is served with sides of Google background checks, fake emergency phone calls, supportive best friends, manipulative exes and protective parents, who sing and dance them through ice-breakers, appetizers and potential conversational land mines. FIRST DATE is a hysterical and hopeful musical about the chances we take to find love.
